A clear, practical answer
A Neighbour's Car Alarm Keeps Going Off: What Can You Do?
Try to reach the owner first: check the glass for a number or QR code, and ask the building manager or a nearby business. If nobody can be reached and the noise continues, report it to the local authority's noise team or the police non-emergency line. Do not try to silence the car yourself.

Bu rehberi Türkçe okuReach the owner first
The owner of a misfiring alarm usually has no idea: they are at work, asleep or out of town. Once they know, one button fixes it.
A phone number or QR code on the glass is the shortest route. In a residential block the manager knows whose car it is. On a street, ask in the nearest shop.
If you cannot reach anyone, leave a short note under the wiper saying when the alarm sounds and for how long. The owner may not know there is a fault.
Who to report it to
A car alarm that sounds repeatedly is a noise nuisance in most places. The council's noise or environmental health team handles it; the police non-emergency line is the alternative at night or where no such team exists.
Give the registration, the address and how long it has been going on. The authority can trace the keeper from its own records.
If it recurs over days, keep a log of dates and times and record a short video. Several neighbours reporting the same car gets a faster response than one.
What not to do
Do not open the bonnet, disconnect the battery, hit the car or cover it. Any damage will be claimed from you, and it buries a complaint you were right about.
Why alarms go off for no reason
A weak battery: the alarm can read a voltage drop as tampering. It is the most common cause on cars that are rarely driven.
Door, boot and bonnet switches: a dirty or misaligned switch reports the bonnet as open.
The interior sensor: a window left ajar, an insect or a swinging air freshener sets it off.
Shock sensors: on aftermarket alarms an over-sensitive setting reacts to a passing lorry or thunder.
The key fob: a failing battery, or a button pressed in a pocket.
If it is your alarm
Have the battery tested and the bonnet and door switches checked, and get an aftermarket alarm's sensitivity turned down. Until it is fixed, many cars let you switch off the interior sensor when locking; the handbook explains how.
The real problem is usually that you do not know. With a QR code on the glass a neighbour can tell you the alarm is sounding, your phone gets a notification, and you deal with it before anybody needs to report it.

Frequently asked questions
Who do I report a car alarm to?
The local authority's noise team, or the police non-emergency line at night or where there is no such team.
How long does a car alarm sound?
Most factory alarms stop after a short burst and start again if the trigger persists. One that keeps repeating has a fault.
Can I disconnect a neighbour's alarm myself?
No. Interfering with someone else's car can count as damage. Tell the owner, the manager or the authorities.
Will the alarm flatten the battery?
Yes. A siren and flashing indicators running for hours can drain a battery that was already weak.
